🚀 Your Weekly Slice of UK Consumer Startups #10
Two Forbes 30U30 startups we picked raised funding 💰 & reach out to be featured in the newsletter!
Hey 👋
A huge couple of weeks for the investment landscape for consumer startups. We saw Pimentae Drinks raise £1.5m and Peachies raise £2.1m 🥳 (for more detail, see From the Feed section below). That’s now two of our handpicked selections of brands to watch from this year’s Forbes 30 Under 30 that have raised investment since we picked them 👀 We’re not saying they’re linked, but think we’ve got a pretty good eye for picking out great up and coming startups…
On another note, from next week we’ll be shaking up the Bitesize playbook 🚨 and chatting with people in the startup world to offer you direct insights into UK startups. In the coming weeks, you’ll be hearing from founders, supermarket buyers, startup operators and everything in between. If you know anyone who would be a great fit (or if you’d love to be featured!), reply to this email and let us know who you are and what you do.

💡 Bitesize Playbook: Selling the Problem, Not the Product
It’s easy to get caught up selling what something is. The ingredients, the tech, the feature list.
But the real traction comes when you sell what something fixes.
People buy solutions to pain, friction, inconvenience.
If you can’t clearly name the tension your product resolves, it probably isn’t sharp enough to cut through.
Solving a problem doesn’t mean slapping a pain point in the pitch deck, it means building around it.
Your pricing, your messaging, your supply chain —> all pointed at making that problem go away.
A product that solves feels obvious. It moves quickly because the gap is so clear people instinctively understand why it belongs on shelves, in baskets, or in someone’s life.
💡 Look at Huel.
It’s not ‘a meal replacement drink with X grams of protein.’
It’s a no-effort, no-excuse way to stay full when life’s too busy to stop.
Huel sells time, not shakes.
When you start from the feature, you’re easy to forget.
When you start from the problem, you’re hard to pass over.
